What is Aldi?

ALDI.com

We recently had a poll on our site to find out who of you shop at ALDI. It seems that most of you know about ALDI and shop there. But here is a little information about it for those of you who aren't familiar with it.

The basics in our words:
  • ALDI is a grocery store that carries the most popular grocery and household items, nearly all under their own private brand.
  • You take your own bags or buy their paper bags for 5 cents, plastic bags for 10 cents or canvas bags for $1.99.
*Angie's note: I LOVE their canvas bags! I can fit 2 weeks worth of groceries in four of them. And for those of you who are green, or like to do what you can to be green (like me!), you feel better about using them!
  • You'll need to deposit a quarter to get a cart, but you'll get it back when you return your cart.
  • ALDI carries some 'special purchase' name brand items. But make sure to double check the prices with other grocery stores as they aren't always the best name brand prices.
  • All items are stacked still in their boxes, there are no shelves. Take a whole box of something if you'd like!
  • ALDI moves through the checkout process quickly. So be ready with your items on the belt. (ALDI packages have multiple UPC bar codes, to read dependably from every direction. The checker can drag an item across the scanner without taking the time to turn it over.) The checker will place your items in the last shopper's cart and then once you pay and take that cart, yours will replace it.
  • ALDI only accepts cash, or a debit card with pin number. And they don't accept coupons.
  • After you take your cart full, you are responsible for bagging your items.
  • Because you do some of the 'work' yourself, ALDI saves you money by not employing stockers, cart boys and baggers.
  • ALDI has a DOUBLE* guarantee. If for any reason, you are not 100% satisfied with any product, the will gladly replace the product AND refund your money. The Double Guarantee does not apply to non-food Special Purchase items.
If you're intimidated by trying out a new store, find a 'vereran' Aldi shopper to tag along with the first time! They can show you the ropes!
